Her mother, who had a hundred times over dried her daughter’s tears with hersleeves, had since become accustomed to those salty drops and now silendy went
about her business, preparing for the wedding.

The older women interpreted Kumush's tears as simple shyness and went back into their room, rummaging again through the contents of a chest and continuing with their weddingpreparations.

Kumush encountered an extraordinary situation as if she just awoken from a dream: it seemed everybody had had the same vision of a
wedding the night before. They were all talking about buying new
feather pillows and were even discussing at length the groom's clothing.
